(Red Wine is Hard to Resist)
I found this poor thing drowing in a glass of excellent red wine and decided to help it out.
Guess where it went as soon as it licked its wings dry:
Oooh red red wine…

Interesting set of photos. Since most insects do not have lungs, most, or at least some, drown because their legs are covered with liquid. I guess some take-in oxygen through openings in the legs. Have you heard of this?

As far as I know insects breathe with their entire body, so it may be entirely possible that their oxygen intake is not sufficent.
But this fly apparently has taste
To put it in the words of master Yoda: “Red wine I like, mmmmmm”

Alenka,
I love your photos, but I HATE that song, or rather UB40′s awful version of it. Nonetheless thanks for the post and pictures. You really are becoming a very fine photographer.

@Abraham and Pengovsky: interesting info, I’d forgotten about that! P, me likes it, too. Feel the force
@Jules: glad to be back with you guys!!!
@Adriaan: I think there’s a time and place for that version of the song as well. Just not every day and everywhere
