As if there was an underlying competition or rivalry for ... state benefits, awarded rights and compensations and so on. (I hope my wording is not too cumbersome, I only get to think such thoughts in German and then translate them into English, which is difficult). I would like - for clarity's sake - point out that Association of Socialist Youth - Liberal Party and Party of Democratic renewal were later renamed LDS and SD respectively. The former held power until 2004 and the erasure happened during its tenure, whereas SD was member of various LDS-led coalitions. So while the right wing used inflammatory language and scoring cheap political points, the left wing should have acted while it still was in power, but didn't. Of course, some would say that there were other priorities (like joining the EU), but that doesn't make it any less wrong. Therefore it seems only fitting that it is an LDS minister who finally started righting this incredible wrong. An epic post, much needed in this overheated debate.
