Bluff's my name... But I like birds of prey very much, too. Right after Herons.

You really made me happy with your pictures, BTW.

Yep, that's him! :) The red-shouldered hawk. You know much more about birds than I do, but I do find them beautiful, especially birds of prey.

BTW, a "buteo" (as in Buteo lineatus - Red-shouldered Hawk) is usually called a "Bussard" (Buzzard) in German (buteo buteo being "kanja" in Slovenia) which is why I checked the haws only as a second thought and concentrated on yellow legs...

Red is the color, then.

Oh, I see. This would be a red-shouldered hawk, no?

Mind you, I only googled "red-shouldered", I hate Bruce Willis and his films  and would prefer not to guess it...

I will humbly admit that it's also not a very good photo. It was taken from afar with a powerful lens and without a tripod. So here comes another hint... the name includes a reference to a part that joins the wing with the body, dyed with colour associated with communism and the bird's family is used in the name of the wind blowing hard on Hudson River as noted in the movie starring Bruce Willis. You can do it!

Well, it's a no go then. :-)

I don't even know whether it is an American bird of prey that cannot be seen anywhere else. Then, it is not very vividly colored (I don't mean the lack of light) - no big contrasts or bold stripes, so it is difficult to know whether it is an adult male (mostly the more colorful sex) or a chick (less colorful - needs to survive). And if it were a chick, it could be quite difficult to google it, since Google & Co. prefer colorful pics.

I honestly do not know, but looking at photos of other birds of the same species, I would venture a guess that this is a young adult. Not a merlin. Hint: again, the name includes a reference to colour.

Well, what are we looking for: a male, a female or an immature bird?
