(Red Wine is Hard to Resist)
I found this poor thing drowing in a glass of excellent red wine and decided to help it out.
Guess where it went as soon as it licked its wings dry:
Oooh red red wine…

Interesting set of photos. Since most insects do not have lungs, most, or at least some, drown because their legs are covered with liquid. I guess some take-in oxygen through openings in the legs. Have you heard of this?

As far as I know insects breathe with their entire body, so it may be entirely possible that their oxygen intake is not sufficent.
But this fly apparently has taste 🙂 To put it in the words of master Yoda: “Red wine I like, mmmmmm”

Alenka,
I love your photos, but I HATE that song, or rather UB40’s awful version of it. Nonetheless thanks for the post and pictures. You really are becoming a very fine photographer.

@Abraham and Pengovsky: interesting info, I’d forgotten about that! P, me likes it, too. Feel the force 🙂
@Jules: glad to be back with you guys!!!
@Adriaan: I think there’s a time and place for that version of the song as well. Just not every day and everywhere 🙂
