Medal

(blackberries may not be the best cameras  one can use)

Here comes the medal from “the POT” – (Pot okoli Ljubljane – Pot ob žici). Btw, Pengovsky’s Liberation Day Hike posts from the first ever Slovenian “live blogging event” can be found (starting) here: http://www.pengovsky.com/2007/05/12/liberation-day-hike-1/

POT: Phone Fails, Legs Do Not

05/12/2008

Unfortunately, I was unable to complete the live reporting from the hike around Ljubljana as my mobile phone decided against it and I could not persuade it to collaborate (err) even though I tried quite hard. Over 400 of us in total did, however, complete the entire 35 km hike and have medals to prove it 😉 The weather was phenomenal and the atmosphere inspiring. This was the first time I did the entire stretch, but I get the feeling it will not be the last.

See you next year!

I presume Lisa would have said:  sedi, pet! 😉

Computer Star

04/06/2008

When it came to cats, I’ve always known they were rather special. Hey, if you are designed to play with the tiny creatures that according to the ultimate trilogy in five parts are superior to men in all respects, you’re bound to rank high in the scope of the Universe and everything. It has always been clear to me that they comprehend much more than they usually let us believe, but now one of them seems to have let her guard down and openly displayed her abilities.

The subject in the photo below, officially known as Planika Zvezdica Zaspanka, also known as Zvezdica to friends, has been caught red-handed. Or black-smoke-pawed at the least. Literally.

Zvezdica

Let me explain. I let my new laptop (meet Rodney! – those who’ve seen Only Fools and Horses will understand) open to run new software installation. Upon my return, I found that:
– the My Documents folder was renamed (hey whose documents are they, anyway?!)
– six desktop icons were renamed to Skype (humm…)
– 14 “Windows Help” windows were open

What remains to be seen is what other deeds had been done in my absence with the extensive assistance of the Windows Help files. Thanks to The Godfather’s candid shot, I’ll at least know where to look for the culprit.

Regardless of what Fetalij says and the expensive gifts Finance writes about, the fundamental things still apply…

Road to Fame – be a (mini)Star

Here’s your chance to see from up close how Slovenian movies are made. Jonas is involved with Vinci’s latest production, Vampir z Gorjancev (Gorjanci Vampire; Gorjanci being a region in Slovenia). They are looking for 100 extras as students during a lecture at the Faculty of Arts (location).

(source) just as a broad reference for the dress code 😉

The movie takes place in the seventies so if you have some time to kill this Sunday around noon,  go check it out, but make sure you’re dressed appropriately for the period (think bell bottoms) 😀 You can either appear at the set ever so groovily or call Ivona at +386 41 555 592 to let her know you’re coming.

(Lisa, Jay?) I don’t suppose you’ll be required to speak Slovene. If anything, you might appear to be listening to the professor more attentively than the average student.

PS: Jonas instructs not to shave.

EDIT 15 FEB 08: Change of location. Show up at the Biotechnical Faculty (location)

Nebular Tree / 12 Feb rambling

The Evolutionary Tree was probably considered as nebulous a concept by some of Charles Darwin’s (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) contemporaries…

High Heels Lead to Better Sex

02/05/2008

Highhhhh Heels
(source)

Thanks to DougguoD, I may have just found the true reason why I like high-heel shoes. I always thought it had to do with my less than extra-tall height or the effect they have on the style of walking, but here’s another take:

BBC reports that high heels may improve sex life. Apparently, wearing higher heels may improve pelvic floor muscles and in doing so boost your sex life. In a letter to European Urology, Dr Maria Cerruto said her research showed it was time to stand up for the heel. “Like many women, I like high-heeled shoes,” she added. “It’s good to know they have potential health benefits.” (read more)

As abbym0308 says (great choice of photo, btw), heels also look sexy, which might make you feel more confident and therefore appear more attractive to a potential mate… which might make you score a date that leads to a romp in the sack… which also may be an improvement in your sex life.

Still have to get to the bottom of the red dress thing, though. Whoops 😉

Patients!

01/30/2008

While I appreciate the fact that our Government Communication Office regularly puts together a newsletter on current events in the country that anybody can subscribe to, I think it would be kind of nice to respect our language and possibly politicians (?) enough to spell their names correctly. Using čžš, that is.

Unless the keyboards were sponsored by a predominantly English-speaking country, these guys should be able to locate said letters on there someplace and when it comes to the dreaded umlaut, perhaps they should learn from my favourite moose

Just when I thought the Government Communication Office spelling Slovenia’s President as ‘Tuerk’ was a bit of an issue, I settled a real (or cyber, anyway) life issue with an American company’s live-chat tech-support guy. Let me quote his final words before the black screen sent him to oblivion… (Or possibly back to India.)

Tech Support Guy: “Thank you for all your patients.”

Hey, anytime 😉
