Drool with me
07/18/2007
No time to really write, so today, I’ll just post another photo. Being in the real estate business, I come across all types of properties, but the ones on our portfolio lately are so nice they make me go oooh and aaah. If you were a client, I’d be talking investment opportunity, appreciation, rental return. But actually, all I want is some sympathy ๐ When I win the lottery, this will be my party place.

I’m pretty good with throwing cocktail parties. Can we use your place? ๐

Sorry for my off-topic, but since you wrote you’re from a real estate business, I have a question for you. ๐
Is it true that April/May are usually the busiest months in this business and that this year the demand was much lower than in the previous years? Could it be that the prices finally reached the top?

Sunshine, it’ difficult to specify the busiest months. In our experience, the market is always busy, just with different type of activity. For example, during summer months will typically have more foreign clients than Slovenes. For me, personally, business peaked in autumn, actually.
As far as prices go, no I don’t think so. Everyone keeps speculating that they will decline, but I sincerely doubt it. Once you’ve travelled widely, you realize what a special place we have here in Slovenia and I don’t blame people who want to join us.
Slovenia has been getting some serious exposure as a land of real estate investment opportunity, not to mention blockbuster movie shooting, Heather Mills, etc. What will happen when Slovenia takes over EU presidency and it is “discovered” by even more foreigner? If Slovenes won’t drive the market, trust me, others will.

PS I said my business peaked in autumn, but I should add I was away, working in Luxembourg from January through April, so can’t assess last year as a full 12 months.

@dr. filomena: Sure! ๐ My flat or my office… take your pick – the latter has “a view to a kill” ๐

Humm guess I’ll have to drop by at Cutty Sark to discuss details ๐

Thank you very much for the answer! Even though it’s not saying what I was hoping for. ๐
It just seems that there is no way that I could ever buy myself a “miลกja luknja” of my own. :((((((

Another dreamer here ๐ Well, I had a “miลกja luknja” of my own so I can say it’s great but I can also say how awfull is to be back on “rent a flat” . But… that’s life ๐

Cheer up, girls!
Some entrepreneurship, a bit of elbow grease and the right attitude will do the trick. I get the feeling you can muster up plenty of the above so have no doubt you’ll have much more than a mouse hole soon.
The first one to have a penthouse throws a huge party for contributors to this thread, deal? ๐

Count me in! I’ll even drink a beer if necessary ๐

I wouldn’t submit you to that torture, personally. If I throw the party, it’ll be cocktails ๐

Well, any alcohol would be a real miracle in my hands ๐ Beer especially ๐

@ dr. filomena: Thanks for the support. I’m sure it’s well intended but I somehow doubt it’s very realistic. I checked several options to find something I could afford and figured out there’s nothing. If I search for something not well maintained it’s a credit + costs for renovation = not enough left to live from. If it’s far away it’s a credit + driving costs = not enough left to live from. If it’s in the city and well maintained it’s a high credit = not enough left to live from.
Obviously I need a partner to co-invest, otherwise I’m doomed. ๐ And yes, I will probably find a solution in 5 years, but the situation is bothering me now. I’m too old to live with my parents and if I go and rent something I can’t save anything and I’ll be left off where I’m now – with not enough assets to buy anything.

Sorry, I have a bad day. ๐ You can delete my previous ranting. I guess no one wants to read my pessimism on a sunny Friday afternoon when everyone’s happily looking forward to the weekend.

Few people can actually afford a penthouse… It is, however, possible to live in one. I mean, who says that you have to own it?
And I’m sure our hostess/photographer could start giving out selected tips on reaching beyond the obvious in buying/renting real estate ๐

@Sunshine: You need to break the habit of apologizing. Have more faith…
@Pengovsky: Right you are. Perhaps just joining a party in one from time to time is all it takes ๐ As for tips, let me think on that one. Worth considering.

G’day Dr Filomena,
Thanks for leaving me the link to this post.
It really is is a beautiful shot. Great balance, wonderful perspective. Really makes me want to keep staring at the picture.
Over the past year, I’ve put some amazing sunset and sunrise shots on my blog – we get some great skies here in Melbourne.
Keep smiling
David
